Adventurous Venues: funfair themed!

Venues

Funfair themed wedding? Why not! While many couples know from the start that a traditional venue isn’t what they’re after, they often struggle to figure out where exactly they do want to hold their special day. Well, we’re here to help, having ferreted out some of the most outrageously inventive venues around. This time Hazel Orton invites us to step right up and explore the fun of the fair…

Having a fun fair theme, is just perfect for the young at heart and ideal for keeping children entertained on what can otherwise be a long day for them. So if you fancy getting into the spirit of funfair fever, one of these truly quirky family friendly places could provide the signature wedding venue for your special day.

Vintage dream day

Beginning in Kent lies The Marleybrook House Wedding Venue. They started with a small number of vintage rides which had been collected and lovingly restored by staff, making an incredible venue for a funfair themed wedding. This collection has now grown into the largest vintage fairground held in private collection in the UK and includes the famous City of Plymouth Waltzer ride. In addition to rides the venue also supplies a lush selection of fairground treats such as marshmallows, sticky toffee apples, all washed down with strawberry pink champagne shots.

The location offers three intimate and beautiful areas to choose from for your ceremony to take place, including The Glade, The Oak Barn and The Walled Garden and offers a coordination team to make sure you get hitched without a hitch.

Funfair themed + Victorian elegance

Next up is the enchanting family owned and run Preston Court which sits in the secluded countryside of Canterbury, surrounded by ornamental lakes and gardens. Preston Court is a large working farm and inside the old farm buildings hides a strange collection of curiosities, including steam engines and Victorian beam engines.

Outside there are peacocks roaming around the courtyard which encloses a working Victorian Carousel and street food wagons serving family favourites like handmade Italian pizza. They also offer the very cool and unusual ‘canoe bar’ which is, you guessed it, a restored canoe repurposed as an awesome bar! The main wedding barn seats up to 120 people and has a beautiful massive vintage organ as the backdrop.

Indoor dodgems in Devon

The last venue on my list for a fab funfair themed day is in North Devon. Set in The Milky Way Adventure Park, I came across The Old Barn Wedding Venue. Once a milking parlour, The Old Barn is a 17th century rustic barn with traditional wooden beans and whitewash stone walls situated close to Bideford, with conservatory and gardens.

I chose this venue as it is perfect for any weather with its indoor dodgems. The family run location prides itself on being a flexible venue giving freedom to those who DIY on a budget and welcomes same sex couples, in fact the first ever ceremony held at The Old Barn was with a same sex couple so they really set the pace.

To find out more about the featured venues, visit them at The Marleybrook House, Preston Court and The Old Barn.
